Milk Street Recipe Comments Temporarily Down After Website Update

Hello All - I have checked in with our digital team regarding the changes made to the recipe comments section as, I too, was surprised by this change. They informed me that they did an update to the website and that may have inadvertently affected the code for the comments section. Our website development team is looking into this and will, hopefully, have a resolution soon. I will let you know as soon I/we know anything Best, Lynn C.

Answered by Lynn Clark

Hello All - I checked in with our digital team and they assure me that they are still working on reinstating the recipe comments section of the website, however, it make take several more weeks to get them back up and running. Best, Lynn C.

Are Self-Paced Classes Still Free with Insider Membership?

Are the self-paced classes no longer free with Insider subscription?

Answered by Lynn Clark

Hi Folks - I checked in with our Cooking School team and the classes are still free. Here is what they said: They are indeed still free to Insiders! Insiders have to enroll by linking from their logged in account at www.177milkstreet.com to Teachable, where we host our self-paced classes. They should click on a class of interest here: https://www.177milkstreet.com/school/classes/online-classes For Insider enrollment in The Umami Pantry and Sour Grapes, which are not yet loaded on our site, they can email cookingschool@177milkstreet.com and we can share a discount code for free access. Hope that helps! Best, The Milk Street Team

Is Milk Street Developing a Mobile App?

Do you intend to have a mobile app (iOS specifically)? It would make it much easier to do grocery shopping, and follow the recipes while cooking as opposed to the browser version.

Answered by Lynn Clark

Hi Tom - We are constantly updating and improving our digital platforms and I know there are a ton of things in the works right now. I will definitely pass your suggestion for an app along to the digital team! Best, Lynn C.

How to Fix Cloudflare Error 520 on the Milk Street Website

I am getting a repeated problem accessing the Milk Street web site (177milkstreet.com). The problem seems to come and go, but at the moment I cannot access any page on the web site (including the home page). I am using Google Chrome on a Mac, and I am not having problems with any other web sites. If I open an "incognito window", it works fine (that's how I was able to get to this page). I can also use a different web browser (Safari) and it works fine there too. I don't know if there's a problem with the cookies, or something else that's causing Milk Street to return the error. I could not find any way to talk to a customer service person about a web site problem -- if there's a phone number to call, please let me know. The exact error message is: "Error 520 Web server is returning an unknown error" and then below it says "What happened? There is an unknown connection issue between Cloudflare and the origin web server. As a result, the web page can not be displayed."

Answered by Lynn Clark

Hi William - I am going to forward your comment to our digital team to see if they can diagnose your problem. Be on the lookout for an email from them regarding your issue. Best, The Milk Street Team

Where to Find Milk Street's Cacio E Pepe Recipe

In a recent issue there was an "aside" or "parenthetical" note about a Recipe for Cacio e Pepi that involved using a blender, A link to the website was included. Can you help me find that recipe? Thanks,' Judie Stone

Answered by Lynn Clark

Hi Judie - You can find our new cacio e pepe recipe here. Our recipe is inspired by a recipe from Luciano Monosilio, who makes his sauce in a blender and then cooks the pasta in a skillet. Ultimately we shortened his version (and skipped the blender) because we found we could simply start and finish the whole dish in the skillet. We begin the sauce by combining water with flour, adding the pasta and cooking to al dente, then removing it from the heat, adding the cheese, oil and pepper and tossing. Best, The Milk Street Team

Why Eventbrite Says Sales Ended for a Milk Street Class

Is there a reason it is not possible to register for this class on Eventbrite? Even if a class is sold out, I usually see a "waitlist" option and there isn't one here. Just "Event Sales Ended".

Answered by Lynn Clark

Hi Anthony - I checked in with the Cooking School team and they assured me the class is still open and the registration button is working. If it helps, here is the direct link to the class registration on Eventbrite - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/substitutions-how-to-make-great-choices-tickets-190633338447. If you are still having issues with registration, you can reach out to the cooking school directly at cookingschool@177milkstreet.com (this is probably the most direct way) or let us know here. Best, Lynn C.

Why Cooking Class Products Are Often Out of Stock

I have taken several classes and in each one most of the products are unavailable. First, why would Milk Street not pre-stock the recommended items before the class is offered? And, second, it is a poor business practice. If people cannot purchase the items at the time they take the class, they are less likely to buy the products at all resulting in lost revenue. I have also had poor experiences with the website and calling customer service. I believe the concept and content of Milk Street are good but poor planning and customer service will be the downfall of this good effort if they are not fixed soon.

Answered by Lynn Clark

Hi Peggy - You can search by word in the recipe search bar and it will bring up all recipes that reference that word. Best, The Milk Street Team

How to Identify Podcast Reruns by Original Air Date

It seems that over the last several months, there have been several reruns of the whole podcast or at least the main theme. Is it possible to indicate that "this is a rerun" so I don't have to keep thinking, "didn't I already see/hear this?"

Answered by Lynn Clark

Hi Robert - In the episode description it should give the original air date, which will indicate that it's a rerun. Best, Lynn C.
