Rialto Seafood Market, Venice (Mercato di Rialto)

On our culinary trip to Venice, we learned that you can still get some of the world’s freshest shellfish at the Rialto Market. One of the city's historic commercial hubs, it's operating continuously for over a thousand years along the Grand Canal.

Located near the Rialto Bridge, this bustling marketplace is divided into two main sections: the Erberia, where vendors sell fresh fruits and vegetables, and the Pescheria, dedicated to the day's catch of fish and seafood from the Adriatic.

We bought scampi and then, under the guidance of chef Marika Contaldo Seguso, made a feast of many fishes.
