
Sweet Soy Sauce (Kecap Manis)

Step 1
In a small saucepan over medium-high, combine the sugar and ½ cup water. Bring to a simmer, stirring to dissolve the sugar, then reduce to medium and cook until syrupy and reduced to about ¾ cup, 10 to 12 minutes.
Step 2
Transfer to a small bowl or jar and let cool slightly. Stir in the soy sauce, then let cool to room temperature.
