Recipe Developer

Position Overview

Christopher Kimball's Milk Street is looking for a seasoned culinary professional to join our culinary team. In this position, you will develop, test and edit recipes and document supporting testing material for all of our platforms.

This role will start with a 60–90 day pilot phase to confirm alignment on workflow, pace, and deliverables. Following a successful pilot, the position is designed to transition into a full-time hire. Candidates must be able to work in our office in downtown Boston five days per week.

Passion for and knowledge of food and the culinary landscape is essential to this role. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience with recipe development and basic food science. Candidate should be a team player with an ability to take on new projects and run with them, and be excited to develop content for our brand. The role reports to the Culinary Production Director and editing/content teams.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, testing and writing recipes for our many cookbooks, magazine and digital platforms.
  • Thoroughly documenting all testing activity with text and photos and providing scientific evidence when appropriate.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to cook international and American cuisines proficiently and with a variety of culinary cooking techniques
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to meet many deadlines and keep up with fast-paced production schedules
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to think independently and creatively and contribute ideas
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong computer skills

Education and Experience

  • Hold a professional culinary degree, or at least 4 years experience in a professional kitchen setting, preferably in a media environment
  • Have at least 5 years recipe development experience
  • Have an extensive background in professional and home cooking and baking
  • Well-versed in the inner workings of a professional kitchen, including sanitation, ingredient rotation, etc.
  • Deep knowledge of food media, trends and ingredients
  • A strong grasp of international cuisines
  • Experience on camera is not a requirement, but candidates must be comfortable and excited to appear on screen regularly and represent the Milk Street brand
  • Experience teaching cooking classes is a plus
